The Farsi word rostangāh (رستنگاه), translated in English as hairline, derives from rostan, meaning to grow or to sprout, and the suffix -gāh, which carries both place and time. Rather than indicating a fixed line or boundary, rostangāh refers to a site of emergence and a zone of becoming.
A phrase from the Quran has stayed with me since childhood, warning of a day when “mountains turn into carded wool.” My work manifests resistance by collecting strands of life that have been carded and scattered, reshaping bodies and mountains. Using raw wool, a needle, and my physical force through a repetitive, slow process as a method of drawing is my way of enduring and constructing.
